WHAT TO WEAR: Errands

June 3rd, 2015 at 2:00am

With school out for the summer, many of us college kids are finding that we now have a lot of time on our hands. Time that was once spent studying and working can now be used for other activities. What better way to celebrate this newly acquired time than hit the mall and go shopping with your friends? I mean, that counts as an errand, right? You can make a few returns you’ve been meaning to get to, hit a few sales, buy out the store or window shop and spend nothing at all. The choice is all yours!

Alas, the days of running errands in sweatpants and Nike shorts are over! Dresses are always my go-to on shopping days because of how quick they are to throw on, and for the coverage they provide. We all know how the cheap, florescent lights of our favorite bargain stores can be overwhelmingly bright and make you super hot. It’s almost like they urge you to get out the fitting room as fast as possible. Due to this, wearing clothes that you can slip in and out of are a must! It’s always the worst when you find a piece that you love, but you leave it on the rack because you’re feeling too lazy to peel yourself out your jeans. Just a quick slip over your head and (voila!) problem solved.

This Fashionista pairs an elephant print kimono, with a navy nautical striped dress. Kimonos are especially hot in the fashion world right now, and I love the versatility of them. As demonstrated by our Fashionista, the kimono goes well over a dress. I love how she mixes stripes with the printed fabric of the kimono. This is pattern mixing done well. In addition to its compatibility with dresses of all lengths, a kimono can also be paired with shorts and a top, or worn as a bathing suit cover-up!

Another touch is her brown faux leather bag, which is awesome for shopping because it frees her hands and won’t accidentally get left behind like smaller wristlets and wallets. Since the bag is vintage, the fixtures are a little dull. In order to make the details pop, she wears gold midi rings and a gold bracelet. The faux suede oxfords also give this outfit a nice casual vibe and are ideal for a day of roaming around town. Get a similar, affordable look here.

One Simple Change: Let’s take this look up a notch. To give this look a more “vacation” vibe, we could swap out the loafers for some platform sandals, and sweep the hair into a topknot. To give the outfit an extra touch of summertime flirtation, I would also ditch the shoulder bag for a funky clutch like this one.
