STYLE GURU STYLE: Black & White & Trendy

Being the fashion geek I am, I was casually browsing the latest runway looks when I came across Calvin Klein’s Resort 2016 collection. All of the garments were unique in many ways, but the one thing that stood out to me was the use of black and white fabrics. The entire collection revolved around this ultimate color combination. The black and white trend has been prominent in the fashion world since last spring, and I wasn’t quite sure if it would carry through this summer, but it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere! Thank the heavens because I think 50% of my wardrobe is black and the other half is white (I’m basic).

I could not wait to translate this runway look into my daily street style! I made the black and white trend that the Calvin Klein show was all about my own by sporting it in none other than a romper (I have an unhealthy obsession with rompers if you haven’t picked up on that already). This romper stood out to me especially for a few reasons. It is not just simple color-blocking — it’s a black and white houndstooth print. Houndstooth is a classic print that we’re seeing incorporated into trendy pieces a lot more recently. It’s signature to brands like vintage Chanel and modern Michael Kors, but I think it gives a casual outfit so much interest and versatility.

I chose to wear this adorable black and white houndstooth print romper with my white mid-top Converse, and my go-to jewelry: some fun sunglasses, a watch, a dainty ring, and some little hoop earrings. This outfit is not only super comfortable, being that the romper is 100% cotton and is basically like wearing a cotton T-shirt and shorts, but the romper is also a fashion statement in itself. Beside the black and white and houndstooth trendy aspects, the high neckline that it boasts is also big right now.

From one Fashionista to another, one of my favorite parts about this look is how easily it can be transitioned into nighttime! First and most importantly, I just swapped out my Converse for a pair of black knee-high socks and black heeled booties. Then, I just ditched the jewelry I was wearing for a pair of statement earrings and added some more rings. The booties and high socks combination definitely make this outfit more stylish and nighttime appropriate, and the socks also add some warmth in case it’s a little chilly at night. If you were still cold, a leather jacket would go great with this outfit too! Try it out!
