WHAT TO WEAR: Day to Night

What to Wear

So, you’re sitting and fighting your way through your seven p.m. class on a Thursday while everyone at your apartment is there getting ready to go out, but you’ve gotten used to the feeling and face the fact that yet another night is shot. This class, however, you and your classmates decide to “take back the night,” as my good friend Justin Timberlake once said. You decide that next week, immediately after class, you will head out on the town rather than home to an empty apartment. Don’t let the fact that you won’t have much time to get ready ruin that plan. It’s okay that you won’t have your usual hour to prep—just go with it!

For an occasion like this, keeping your outfit pieces minimal and focusing on the accessories is the way to go. Wearing some great basic pieces, this Fashionista looks beautiful and does a great job accessorizing with her hat and bag and a unique necklace.

Most people shy away from hats because they don’t think they look good in them or they wonder if they can pull them off without looking silly, but this Fashionista wears hers perfectly placed on her long blond waves, keeping her looking chic throughout the night.

As a confessed purse hoarder, I naturally took note of her Marc by Marc Jacobs bag. He always does a great job creating a bag that is as useful as it is fashionable, which is great for a day to night look. Finding a bag that is big enough to keep your essentials in throughout the day and small enough to be evening-friendly works best, and this black leather one does the job. A huge plus is how soft the material is! You have to see (and feel) it to believe it!

Though I am guilty of it, you don’t necessarily have to bring your entire bag of makeup to class to prepare for the night ahead. All you really need is a powder compact and a lip color that makes you feel good, and you’re set. You only have minutes before heading out after class, so there’s no time for a complete re-do, but a quick freshen-up of your daytime face can do wonders. For some people, lipstick just isn’t their cup of tea, but for me, a fun and flirty lip color instantly changes my look and turns up my mood from day to night mode.

So, get a little crazy and head out after that evening class.  And when you know you need a look that will go from day to night, keep your outfit stylish but simple and focus on your accessory pieces.

PS. How adorable are her socks with her booties?!

One Simple Change: Switching into a pair of cut-out booties or wedges after class can dress up a look and take you into the night.
