You know what’s great about Kent? You can literally walk from an all-day study-a-thon at one of Kent’s many chic coffee shops to a night of bar-hopping on South Water Street. The main area of downtown Kent is relatively compact, and especially during the winter season, it proves to be really nifty. My preferred way to spend a Saturday would be an afternoon of vanilla lattes at Tree City Coffee and Pastry followed by a night at 157 Lounge (which I may add, appears to be the place for the fashionable crowd to dance the night away).
Gone are the sparkly tights under high-waisted shorts, as we find more cold weather friendly options for the upcoming months. Don’t know where to start? Well look to this week’s Fashionista for inspiration!
Firstly, I’d like to add that her entire ensemble is completely thrifted. Why do I mention it? Well, I would definitely suggest visiting your local thrift store over break. You’re bound to find a treasure of your own, and the best part? It’s hard to feel guilty about thrifting (unless you are unable to control your impulses and accidentally break the bank).
Acid wash denim has a rich history that includes the surfer and punk countercultures, and it seems that acid wash will always have a place in fashion. Our Fashionista wears hers loose, high-waisted and cuffed, which makes them perfect for showing off her adorable booties.
High-waisted denim works well with another common thrift store find: the basic solid bodysuit! Our Fashionista opts for a basic black, creating the perfect background for whichever accessories you decide to wear that night. The tight fit of the top wouldn’t normally be flattering for everyone, but the high waistline of the denim defines the thinnest part of your torso. This gives you the appearance of longer legs and enhances your natural hourglass figure (or creates the illusion of one if you’re more straight as I am).
What I love about winter fashion is the appearance of fur. It’s luxurious and lush, complements the regal colors of the season and works beautifully as a collar on a coat. Our Fashionista wore a fur stole, which proves to be super versatile (as it can be worn with practically any outerwear in her wardrobe) and a refreshing alternative to a scarf. It looks as good paired with a coat than it does worn alone. Seeing how she wears her fur stole makes me want to add a bit of fur into my personal closet, such as this fur trimmed coat from Piperlime.
She’s just as ready for a night out as she is to tackle her next final, exactly the point of a perfect day-to-night ensemble.
One Simple Change: As a last minute add-on to your holiday wish-list, ask for a pair of trendy Jeffrey Campbell booties to spice up your outfit just the right amount. The pants are perfect for pairing with statement shoes, and you’ll be receiving compliments all night long. Dress up the solid black top with a matching statement collar.
