I remember a few years ago when faux fur vests were coming back into style. I shopped around for the perfect vest, which took forever because I am extremely particular. Once I found a vest that suited the look I was going for, I didn’t know how to style it. I only wore it once the first winter I owned it. I should have realized a faux fur vest is one of the best winter pieces a Fashionista can own. It is versatile, looking great over jeans in class or over a dress at a formal event. Whether it is dressed up or down, this vest is sure you keep you warm and looking like perfection.
This Fashionista is taking a more casual route with the faux fur vest by pairing it over a flannel. I love this mix of the plaid flannel with the fur. She is wearing a dark blue and black plaid, but also try wearing a brighter plaid to stand out against the dark fur. In addition, she is also wearing one of my fall favorites, waxed denim. The waxed denim feels and fits like a normal pair of jeans but has a look that is almost leather-like. They are a great way to add a bit of personality to the basic skinny jeans.
This Fashionista finished off her looked with a pair of suede Steve Madden booties, a large leather tote and a pair of tortoise shell Ray-Ban wayfarers. She is a girl of classic pieces that are easily worn in many different ways. This look is casual enough to be worn in the day but can also be taken into night by switching the flannel out for a silk or chiffon top.
One Simple Change: To wear the faux fur vest to a holiday party, trade the jeans and flannel for a long sleeve dress. Sleeved dresses are the best for freezing nights when you can’t fathom the thought of bare arms, (which for me is basically September-spring break). The combination of the vest, dress and booties will give you a fun look for the night. Whether you choose lace, velvet or a silk dress, there is no wrong way to style your faux fur!
