WHAT TO WEAR: Date Night

Fellas, hate to break it to you, but there is a limited amount of summer days left before it’s back to school. That means it’s time to fit in as many spontaneous plans and weekend getaways as possible during these last few weeks of summertime. This also means these are your last opportunities to wear your favorite summer attire. So why not do so tastefully?

Date nights are the perfect opportunity to dress it up a bit from your casual everyday summer wear. An elegant rooftop dinner with drinks calls for a classy outfit to impress your special date. I spotted this gentleman on his way to a downtown date night dinner, sporting the epitome of the classic prep look.

For an upscale Italian restaurant you can ditch the shorts and instead opt for a nice pair of slacks. The fit of the pants is crucial to maintain the preppy look you’re trying to achieve, so if you don’t have a pair that fit you well it is worth investing in a pair. You want the pants fitted, so find a pair that is not too loose, and make sure the hem falls about an eighth of an inch above your shoe. As for color, the signature light beige oatmeal is perfect for the summertime and will go with just about anything you can think of. He paired these pants with a nice David Donahue light blue gingham sport shirt for a hint of color, and on top, a classic navy blazer that is fitting all year-round. To finish off the look, he chose a timeless brown leather belt and a nice pair of loafers.

One Simple Change: Need to dress it down a bit for a casual weekend wear look? No problem. Swap the slacks for a nice pair of shorts and take off the blazer. You’ll still have the prep look, just more relaxed and less formal, perfect for wherever your summer weekend may take you.
