WHAT TO WEAR: Date Night

It’s that time of year again.

Love is in the air and overpriced chocolate has never been more tempting. Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and even us single girls want to look romantic. It’s always hard to figure out what to do on this very special night, let alone what to wear. We all want to look pretty, and sexy and make heads turn when we walk into a room. But, how do we do that exactly? Well, when in doubt I have one simple rule: wear red.

There’s never been a more appropriate colour for Valentine’s Day. This Fashionista pulls off a maroon lace dress. Its long sleeves and flowing hem gives it a definitive Edwardian feel, and nothing screams romance like Edwardian lace. To keep the winter chills at bay, a fur coat is just the thing to add if you want to keep the luxurious feel that the lace brings in.

No look is ever complete without accessories, but to be honest I’ve always thought of them as an afterthought, throwing on whatever necklace or bangles felt right. In this case, you can’t go wrong with layering on the crystal necklaces, hand pieces, rings and whatever other chains you’ve got lying around; The more the merrier. I prefer silver jewelry in the winter because it plays off the already cool tones of the season. As for handbags and shoes, I’ve always been a stickler for loafers and bucket bags. Who says you have to wear heels on Valentine’s Day?

One Simple Change: Take this look from date night attire to a casual hang out with friends by simply switching the luxe fur coat to a rugged jean jacket. This year, whether you’re going on a date or hanging with the gal pals, red has got you covered, lace is always romantic and wearing heels should be a choice not an expectation.
