WHAT TO WEAR: Concert

What to Wear

Festival season is around the corner, Fashionistas and Fashionistos! For some, this means it’s time to start planning outfits and downloading playlists. For others, it’s time to mentally prepare for the envy-inducing blog posts and Instagram snaps. Sadly, I fall in the second camp and will be cramming for finals instead of catching Lana Del Rey on the Coachella main stage. For my fellow wristband-less friends, I have the easiest cure for your festival season blues—concerts.

A lack of festival tickets shouldn’t mean a complete absence of live music from our lives. In fact, one of the major advantages of living in a college town is the huge variety of live entertainment available. While these events don’t require the flowered headbands characteristic of outdoor festivals, dressing for campus performances can still be fun. I spotted this Fashionista in a leather ensemble and sneakers, the perfect look for a campus concert.

My love of leather is no secret. It really is the perfect fabric for a cool, yet dressy vibe. Leather detailing instantly elevates a look, making it just right for nighttime. This is ideal for an evening concert! It’s great for an intimate coffee house performance, an exclusive club event with an up-and-coming DJ or a stadium show from a big act entertainer. I applaud this Fashionista for doing double duty with her leather. Even on their own, her leather look leggings are sleek, but they are especially complemented by her moto jacket. The coat’s faux leather sleeves are very on trend, but the quilted shoulder detailing makes the jacket unique.

Her outfit is completed with a few casual touches. To save a leather on leather ensemble from looking too Catwoman, add a soft jersey T-shirt like this Fashionista. The layered tank peeking out is a great way to break up a darker color palette. Finally, her Converse sneakers finish the look. For a night of live music, expect to be on your feet a lot. Sneakers are the perfect concert-approved footwear.

Even if you’re unable to jet off to California for a weekend festival, campus concerts are a great source of live entertainment. They’re a good way to experiment with new nighttime looks. Who knows, the underground act you’re catching this weekend may very well play Bonnaroo in a few years.

One Simple Change: For a girls’ night out, switch out the leggings and T-shirt for a printed dress. It will look great under that cool moto jacket.
