WHAT TO WEAR: Concert

What to Wear

All of us fashion enthusiasts have grown up hearing the same universal fashion rule repeated over and over. “Black is flattering,” “black goes with everything,” “black is just…classic.”  I don’t believe this fashion trend will ever change, so why not embrace it? I will be the first to admit that half my closet is dedicated to dark neutral colors; its even fair to say the majority is black. Have a hot date? Black top. Fancy event? Black dress. Attending a girl’s night out? Black leather jacket. Black is the one fashion norm that all fashion gurus understand and accept. An all black ensemble may be suitable for many occasions, but the most classic event to wear such a dark look is to a concert.

Did anyone else instantly start singing Katy Perry’s Roar after seeing the adorable and sassy tiger embellished sweater this Fashionista was flaunting? She was way too stylish to be attending class and I immediately knew her chic look was much more suited for a cool fan attending her most loved concert. Wearing all black can be tricky because it can tend look more depressing than stylish. This Fashionista is a perfect example of how to rock an absence of color without falling into a black hole. Instead of being drab and lifeless, she played with different textures and patterns that made her look refreshing and bold. Adding a simple patterned bag is just one way to break up an all black outfit. You can never go wrong with adding a printed accessory like this or this.

If all black is too mainstream for your taste use it as a base and add colorful pieces that will standout and be more eye-catching.  Follow this Fashionista’s lead and opt to wear light colored shoes or even something more pigmented like these, which draw in attention and break up the head-to-toe all black attire. Her sandy beige ankle booties are the perfect complement for dancing to her favorite songs all night long.

As Neimen Marcus once said: “Women who wear black lead colorful lives” so let’s continue this age old craze, and just agree that black will always be the new black.

One Simple Change: If the weather outside is frightful and you are in need of more layers, throw on a girly faux fur jacket and a bold lip color to make this look ready for bracing the frigid temperatures on a night out with your girlfriends.
