WHAT TO WEAR: Cold Weather

From the Editor, What to Wear

Every season, there seems to be a look that I become obsessed with. I end up filling my closet with every iteration of that look and wear it like a uniform throughout the season. For me, this fall is all about the mini sweater dress, tights and booties. I don’t know what it is about this combination that I am drawn to. Perhaps it is the numerous dichotomies this classic look creates—it is casual while still being put-together; cool while still being somewhat seductive.

This Fashionista shares my same sentiment for this look by rocking her own version on a crisp fall day. I like how she went for not one, but two sweaters. The first is a striped mini sweater dress. The classic stripes make the sweater timeless; while the rich burgundy and black are perfect colors as we head into the holiday season. I love how she then layered on an oversized gray cardigan on top of the dress. The lighter hue and relaxed silhouette of the cardigan make the look more day appropriate. Plus, the extra layer adds some much appreciated warmth as late-fall starts to settle in.

It is important not to overlook how well she executed the remaining portion of the look. Her black tights are super opaque. This is definitely necessary when wearing a super short sweater dress, like this Fashionista. But it also creates a seamless transition into her leather boots; thus elongating her legs. Her black booties are chic and simple without being boring. The leather strap adds a bit of interest. The perfect black bootie is a must for any Fashionista, so find a pair that reflects your style and personality to top off your favorite cold weather look.

Don’t let the dropping temperatures put a damper on your style. Find your perfect cold weather look and rock it proudly, like this Fashionista.

One Simple Change: Heading to a concert? Simple swap out the cardigan for a leather moto jacket and you are reading to rock the night away.
