WHAT TO WEAR: Cold Weather

Some of the first advice I received when I came here to Kent State was that “winter here takes up the majority of the time, so for all you Fashionistas, your coat game has to be strong.” Some people may get discouraged when the cold months come along, because that means goodbye to your fun colorful wardrobe and hello to your neutrals one. I am here to encourage you that you can still spice up your winter wardrobe. You just have to remember it is all in the coat.

This Fashionista lets her confidence shine even through the dismal school day in northeast Ohio. It all starts with her black leather leggings. This is a great option for when the temperatures start to drop, because leather leggings are a thicker material that usually has a lining on the interior to keep you extra warm. Also, extra style points to her for choosing a different texture than denim to keep the look more modern and stylish by adding a fierce factor.

The next great thing about this Fashionista’s look is that the majority of it is black. In the winter it is a good idea to stick to a slimming color so your frame does not hide behind all the layers you pile on. She also adds a touch of gold jewelry all around and personalizes her look with her Greek letters from Alex and Ani.

My personal favorite thing about this outfit is this Fashionista’s cream H&M wool coat. She wears it as a cardigan, which brings the outfit a casual look. Going with cream allows you to establish a more eclectic wardrobe. Another great tip for cold weather style is to change up the textures in your wardrobe to keep the neutrals interesting. So from the black leather legging to the sheer black blouse and the cream wool coat you can cover many different textures to keep your layering interesting.

One Simple Change: Headed to a date night after your last class? You can always slip this wool coat over a little black dress with some tights and easily have a more dressed up, yet comfortable look.
