WHAT TO WEAR: Cold Weather

Winter is now in full effect in the Pacific Northwest. Many are wishing for the nice summer heat and lazy afternoons; however, just because it’s winter doesn’t mean your style has to be as dead and gloomy as the weather. Actually, the cold weather brings forth a chance to play with textures and cuts, as well as neutrals along with splashes of color.

This week’s Fashionisto shows us how to do cold weather in style. A winter coat is a must in everyone’s wardrobe; a good jacket can be paired with a fisherman sweater or zip-up sweatshirt, a plaid button-down (like this Fashionisto) or even a plain white T-shirt. This Fashionisto is sporting a puffer jacket, which can be tricky depending on the size of the coat. To avoid looking too bulky, try a down jacket from The North Face or Patagonia, which is both warm and stylish. This Fashionisto pairs his jacket with a red and blue plaid button-down and tan pants. For accessories, he chose a pair of dark brown desert boots and a gray beanie to complete this winter look.

The cold weather is finally here and it is a chance to play with texture. Try chunky knits in wool and cashmere and add some leather or suede details.Simple things like these can really elevate your look and style.

One Simple Change: If you have a more formal event to attend, such as a presentation or internship, switch out the jacket for a classic wool top coat for a more pulled together look. It’s an item in your closet that you will quickly become a staple.
