It is everyone’s favorite time of the semester, syllabus week! It is a time for first impressions and getting back into school mode before classes really start. If you are like me, the effort that goes into your outfits every day slowly decreases as the semester progresses. What starts as high-waist shorts and a cute tank top turns into leggings and a T-shirt. The motivation to try gets lost in cold weather and early classes. After staying up late trying to finish an assignment, the last thing on your mind in the morning is trying to look cute. You end up going to class looking like you could be related to Oscar the Grouch. This year I encourage everyone to fight this urge. Just because the weather becomes bleak and dreary it does not mean our outfits have to as well.
This Fashionista demonstrates a perfect balance of cute and comfy. Her outfit allows her to look stylish, while also avoiding the uncomfortable feeling one gets from sitting in a hard plastic chair all day. She chose to contrast her sunny, yellow, striped shorts with a flowing cotton pink top. The three quarter length sleeve is perfect for a chilly classroom. By opting to go with a pair of colored cotton shorts instead of denim she eliminates the threat of her shorts digging into her leg when she sits down. Finding a pair of shorts with some stretch is a must for college life.
The gold accents she added with her jewelry really catch your eye. When the sun hits them as she walks around campus, it gives her outfit a little sparkle. Her teardrop earrings and gold bangle bracelet go perfectly with her gold strappy sandals. I really love that her bracelet is monogrammed. This has become such a trend lately and everyone needs a little monogram in their life. The gold accessories help to bring out the yellow in her shorts, an effect silver would not have been able to accomplish. Her Lilly Pulitzer wristlet is perfect carrying around a student ID and room key. The color scheme of her ensemble really complements her long, dark brown hair and beautiful sun-kissed skin. This Fashionista’s bright colors remind me of the summer we are all longing for.
One Simple Change: As the winds start to pick up and the sun becomes a distant memory, you can exchange the shorts for a pair of colored jeggings and add a leather jacket and bold scarf. Instead of sandals a pair of creamy brown boots would be a perfect way to finish the outfit.
