WHAT TO WEAR: Class

January 23rd, 2015 at 2:00am

Unfortunately, just because campus buildings are decorated with large icicles during this time of year, it is not a reason to cancel classes. That means bundling up in a chic outfit is a must this winter season. While it is easy to throw on a sweatshirt and leggings, for both comfort and timeliness reasons, try swopping out a sweatshirt with a nice sweater and ditching the leggings for a pair of stylish pants to up your style for your classes everyday.

This Fashionista has perfected a military-inspired, vintage look for class that is both comfortable for sitting through long lectures while remaining fashion-forward. With Minnesota temperatures, just about every outfit calls for a coat to keep you warm when running from class to class. A simple, knee-length Calvin Klein coat keeps this Fashionista warm, but it is what peaks out from under her outfit that makes it a trend-inspired look.

Easy to slip on with a stretchy waistband, detailed with feminine pleats and cuffed at the ankles, this Fashionista’s pants are the perfect way to go one step beyond a pair of jeans. From Elie Tahari, these faded, greyish-green pants add military inspiration to her outfit as they are tucked into a pair of black Ralph Lauren combat boots. With elastic on both the sides of the boots and a detailed zipper in the back, they can be easily slipped on and paired with her pants. With a masculine, heavy style on the bottom of her outfit, this Fashionista paired a feminine, textured sweater to go with her outfit on top. A crewneck sweater is the perfect way to keep this outfit simple; yet, it is still a complementary statement piece, and creates balance while adding texture.

Of course, no outfit is complete without the perfect accessory. This Fashionista has worn a vintage, gold ring on her finger to add a little shine and detail to her final look. With her hair pulled back into a loose bun and her bangs draped to frame her face, her raspberry lipstick adds a final pop of color to her outfit. This Fashionista has not let the cold get her down and she has not resorted to sweats; rather, she has created a classy, yet comfortable look that she can show up to class confidently in.

One Simple Change: After a long day of classes and studying, a dinner out with the girls is the perfect stress reliever. To take this look from day to night, switch out the combat-inspired boots for a pair of heels. Still maintaining the masculine style of the pants, a pair of heels will push this outfit to an elegant look that shows off the cuffs of the pleated pants. Of course, don’t forget to reapply a coat of your bold lipstick!
