What to Wear

While I know we would all love to be galavanting about in the sunshine this summer,  unfortunately, there are these little things called summer classes. The dreaded coursework can really put a damper on your summer plans. The good news is this is a chance to show off your summer skin to your classmates and maybe even catch the eye of the cute guy in the back row!

This studious Fashionista takes a laid back approach to her class time attire. She is killin’ it in a vintage inspired graphic T-shirt and denim cut-offs, showing off her edgy side. The oversized T-shirt and shorts gives her an easy going, casual feel.

Denim cut-offs are a summer necessity, end of story. They will work with absolutely any top that you have in your closet, from strappy floral tanks for a casual date night look, to oversized sweatshirts for a night time bonfire on the beach. You pretty much can’t go wrong with denim in general, and the summer is just asking for a good pair of cut-offs.  Whether you make them yourself from an old pair of your mom’s jeans from the ‘80s — or prefer someone to do the manual labor for you — denim is your best friend in the summer heat.

Summer is a great time to scavenge for vintage pieces. Some crazy people feel the need to do spring cleaning, which usually includes a closet clean out. I don’t know who these people are, but they may need to be examined by a medical professional. Anyone that would get rid of vintage gems must be clinically insane. But lucky for us, that means more treasures to find and old trends to bring back to life! Graphic T-shirts are always a pretty easy find, even beginner treasure hunters can usually find a jackpot if they know what they are looking for. So in between classes, make sure you check out the local vintage and consignment shops in your neighborhood.

Combat boots are definitely not a season specific wardrobe piece. They can carry you from winter to summer and everywhere in between. Pair them with a flowery sundress, or a big sweater and jeans, you’ll never miss the mark. When you keep your outfit casual, it’s never a bad idea to do the same with accessories. Rings are a great to bring in a little dash of color to a neutral look.

In the grand scheme of creating the perfect outfit for class, you don’t want to have to plan your look around your crazy colored, graphic print backpack. Keep it simple with a neutral color, like black or gray. Invest in a good backpack, like this Herschel Supply Co. backpack, that will last you all four years of your college career.

One Simple Change: Leave your backpack at home and grab a suede fringe cross-body bag for a relaxing girl’s night out after a long day of classes.
