WHAT TO WEAR: Class

What to Wear

While the new semester has officially kicked into full gear, time is of the essence for college students from coast to coast. As if maintaining sleep, a social life, work schedules, personal relationships and extracurricular activities weren’t enough to keep your average Pitt student busy, we also have projects to complete, a GPA to maintain and exams to study for.  Oh, and how could one forget the driving force behind all of this madness? Class.

When spending hours in a classroom, it’s best to dress in clothes that allow you to move and breathe. With sweater weather nearly behind us, refresh your go-to class-wear during this late winter season with light, airy fabrics. Layers make the transition from thick wool and heavy knitted materials easy. This week’s Fashionista posed for me in a dainty black quarter-sleeved T-shirt. I’m obsessed with this relaxed essential oversized tunic T-shirt from Urban Outfitters, as it makes a great staple piece for an array of outfits. The thin fabric allows versatility, letting you to keep this item front and center in your wardrobe throughout all seasons.

The second layer of her outfit was an oversized, short-sleeved cardigan. The contrast in sleeve lengths between layers polishes the draped look, while the pattern adds to the outfit’s dynamic. The slouchy fit and wide sleeves of the cardigan remind me of a kimono, a personal favorite style component of mine. Check out these Bohemian inspired ones from Arnhem clothing or channel this Fashionista’s look with this simple striped one from Urban Outfitters.

As a general rule, when going for an oversized element compensate for the all that extra fabric with something form fitting and flattering underneath.

To offset her airy ensemble this Fashionista complemented her look with skinny maroon jeggings and basic combat boots. With glossy long locks, chic black frames and modest pearl earrings, she was styled just right for a day of classes.

One Simple Change: Staying after class to meet with your professor? If you’re really trying to “dress for success” I’d suggest trading the rough combat boots for solid black wedge booties and interchanging the breezy cardigan with a sophisticated blazer.
