Sure, it’s hard to be enthusiastic about every single course you signed up for. Chances are, for every semester you push through, there’s one class you completely dread. You can’t help but tune out the professor’s monotone voice, the no-computer rule prevents you from doing a little side-shopping online and you frequently find yourself falling asleep. We’ve all been there.
But, with three years of college under my belt, I’ve found that what you wear to class determines your motivation—and, thus, your willingness to stay alert. Take this Fashionista’s ensemble, for example. Her tousled locks and beanie suggest that she’d like to stay comfortable, but her cuffed skinnies and heeled booties make her appear chic and put together. And, because of her accessories—a few delicately layered necklaces and faded aviators—we can be sure she tried. In other words, she didn’t just wake up and roll out of bed with a groan.
I’ll bet that she stayed sharp all day long, even if she was fueled by a few head turns. After all, she knows her look is eye-catching and she flaunts it with pride. Another reason this getup is totally on point for school? This Fashionista has aced her layers game. A neutral, khaki colored moto jacket is cute enough to sport alone, and a brown fur coat makes for some pretty striking outerwear. Since the temperature of the building you’re headed to is probably a bit unpredictable, it’s sensible to pair up a couple of stylish jackets.
One Simple Change: If today just so happens to be your in-class presentation, nix the leather topper and go for a tailored blazer. You can still wear your sunnies to class, but once you’re inside, tuck them away—and leave your beanie at home. Instead, try a quick fishtail braid if you don’t have time to style your hair with hot tools.
