WHAT TO WEAR: Class

It’s safe to assume that at some point, everyone went out shopping for the perfect first day of school outfit: the ideal combination that qualified for the top five cutest outfits you’ve worn to date, something people would remember. This is not to say, however, that the significance of the outfit has died down with the excitement. In reality, everyone still strategically chooses the perfect look for the first day of class—something casual but subtly fabulous.

The beginning of a new semester, much like the first day of school, means new classes and new faces. At a big school like Virginia Tech, the chances of those faces being unfamiliar are all the more likely. While it’s tough to accept that we, as humans, may in fact “judge a book by its cover,” it is also important to note that this is the perfect opportunity to shine. I have always been a fan of the phrase: look good, feel good, do good. What better way to start off a semester of new classes than to look good?

It is entirely too easy to fall under the comfort spell of leggings and an oversized sweatshirt, but the most simple and chic outfits are the ones that stand out the most. This Fashionista chose cuffed blue skinny jeans with long layers over top. She paired Free People’s pink lace-trim slip with a long neutral cardigan and a parka for extra warmth. Cuffing the jeans and adding the suede boots brought the look together, along with the layering of different bracelets and necklaces. She used statement rings for a pop of color.

A simple outfit like this is the perfect way to make a statement without doing too much. So when the first day of class rolls around and you see your favorite and most loyal pair of comfy black leggings, stay strong and remember the power of looking good. After all, it eventually leads to doing good; and who doesn’t need a morale booster once in a while when it comes to grades?
