Here in High Point, classes have started, campus is in full swing and we’re all wishing we could go back to syllabus week when the work was scarce, the weather was nice and the pool was beckoning. Since we aren’t living in the movie Back to the Future and are short of a DeLorean time machine, we have no choice but to trudge to class in the sticky air that August’s end brings.
It’s hard to find a balance as summer transitions into fall no matter your location, but it is especially challenging in the South. The deeper you get into August, the more moisture is trapped in the air. In addition, the summer heat is still prominent despite the fleeting cool winds seeping their way into the atmosphere. As Fashionistas, it’s our job to take these less than inspiring weather conditions as a challenge. We have the advantage as gurus of the cloth to conquer this awkward transition and use it to showcase our mix and match style. Personally, I fully embrace the month’s end. Not only does it mean that my favorite season, fall, is slowly but surely approaching, it also means that I can begin to incorporate some of the upcoming season’s pieces into my daily wardrobe. Shorts with scarves, dresses with boots, skirts and cardigans; could it get any more perfect?
This Fashionista couldn’t have mastered the weather more perfectly. She does so by wearing a piece that takes a fall fabric and combines it with a summer staple: leather shorts. Her shorts are a perfect way to appease the heat and chase cold winds. She pairs it with a lightweight, breezy fabric up top and a simple, but chic necklace. Finished with a pair of Tory Burch sandals, she is ready for a day of classes, comfortable in her fashion-forward and weather appropriate get-up. Her outfit screams elegance and efficiency.
One Simple Change: This Fashionista’s outfit is perfect for a day of running around campus from class to class. Swap the sandals for a pair of wedges to create a perfect look for a girl’s night out.
