It’s bittersweet to pack up our summer clothing and accept that a weekend trip to a North Carolina beach would be spend in a sweater, not a swimsuit. Fashionistas all over campus are replacing their sandals with ankle boots and their tanks for denim jackets. Though we are saying goodbye to the sweet freedom of summer, I believe we are entering a season that is just as sweet in its own way.
This season brings changing leaves, spiced hot drinks, boots and all things pumpkin. But most of all, it brings one of my favorite things: fall date nights. There are so many awesome dates to go on: pumpkin festivals, apple picking or hayrides. The cool wind will push you and your autumn sweetheart closer while also allowing you to expand your fashion horizons. On a casual date night, especially on a date outdoors, we all want to look our best while still being ready for anything the weather has to throw at us. This means combining the two Cs: comfort and chicness.
This Fashionista combines the two Cs perfectly while looking darling for a fall date night. She combines three of my personal must-have fall items into one outfit: a cafe leather jacket, combat boots and a mid-calf skirt. Her choice of color is ideal for a date: the muted tone of pink against the caramel of the jacket makes her look casual, but allows her attention to detail and personal style to shine through. You want your date to see your personality in how you present yourself! She pairs these staple items with a quaint button-down, printed with roses and tied at the end.
The combination of elements in this Fashionista’s look prepares her for anything the date might throw her way. Her jacket will keep her warm if it’s chilly or gets colder later into the night. If not, she can simply sling it over her arm and rock the button-down she has underneath. Her skirt keeps the femininity and date-like attire feel in her look, which is important (especially on a first date) when you want to impress. It’s just the right length to be practical on a date like apple picking, but it won’t sweep the floor in the event that it rains or the lawn is muddy from previous rain. The boots are comfortable and add a hint of edge and personality to her overall look. We should all take a page from this Fashionista’s book on our next fall-inspired casual date night!
One Simple Change: This outfit is sweet and practical for a casual date night in the fall. Swap the leather jacket for a cardigan and the boots for some loafers for something that could be worn after a few of those date nights, when you finally meet the parents.
