When I was a kid, “date night” for my parents marked my favorite time of the week. It signified a babysitter’s leniency, too much television and delivery pizza. I think my brother and I had just as much fun being free from mom and dad on a Saturday night as our parents did going out to dinner.
Now that the days of babysitters are long gone and I am living in Manhattan, I find that I have my own date nights. While candlelit dinners or tickets to shows as lovely, sometimes it’s more fun to keep things casual. Let’s face it, there are nights when we all have to talk ourselves out of our pajamas and log off Netflix. (Okay, after one more episode of The Office.) As busy college students, it’s nice to have a more casual date night every once in a while.
This Fashionista has the right look for grabbing burgers or going for a late night walk through Central Park. I personally love wearing dresses for any occasion and this Fashionista manages to make a very versatile dress flirty and fit for a date. The hem is thigh-length and the piece is cinched in the waist to give her a feminine shape. Girly pink bows make a great pattern and work well with the fabric-covered buttons down the front. (Florals are adorable and tribal prints don’t disappoint.)
The J.Crew jacket made of hunter green canvas material makes for perfect spring outerwear, especially in the evening. This particular piece is incredibly popular in New York right now. I see this jacket on the street at least once a day. I own it as well and am wearing it today! I haven’t seen such a popular and versatile piece in a long time. Find a similar version here.
This Fashionista’s stockings add the perfect pinch of spice for a date. The flirty floral detail is unexpected and coy without becoming too risqué. She neutralizes the stockings even further with a pair of black Vans sneakers. With a pair of Ray-Ban aviators for good measure, this Fashionista is ready for wherever date night may lead!
One Simple Change: If it’s time to meet the parents, lower the hemline of your dress and leave the stockings at home. For shoes, trade the sneakers for a cute and classy pair of flats. Now you’re ready to face a less casual setting with confidence!
