WHAT TO WEAR: Casual Date Night

What to Wear

When it comes to date nights many of us fall into a textbook definition of “panic attack.” No matter how casual or formal the date, what we all want is for the night to be perfect. The butterflies in your stomach are enough to worry about, let alone worrying about your outfit! Having a casual date night is a perfect opportunity to show your personal style without placing an expectation on yourself to be sexy. There are numerous ways that you can dress casual and still show your date your starstruck style.

I spotted this Fashionista as I was leaving my last class of the night and soon discovered that she was going on a first date later that night! The outfit says fun, flirty and was perfect for a first date. This Fashionista started with a long sleeve bohemian paisley printed dress. The color of the dress was a nude color but the pattern was engulfed with dark browns, forest greens, rustic oranges and sky blues. If the dress was only nude it would have washed our Fashionista out because of her skin tone, but the color against the nude makes the color pop and be noticed. Also the structure of the dress is appropriate for a casual date in a couple of ways. First the length of the dress is short enough that the Fashionista can still be feminine but also long enough so she can go out for a night of dancing or some other crazy adventure. The second feature of this dress is that it has a cinched waist and a belt. With a long sleeve dress it can sometimes look as if there is too much fabric. When the waist is defined it takes away that volume and produces a womanly waistline. Add in a belt to accessorize the waist as well. This can range from skinny to chunky depending on how much you want to break up the print. She then added a classic leather jacket to keep the brown color scheme and brought the country to Arizona State with some sassy cowgirl boots. The cowgirl boot is a great shoe that shows personality and that you can get rough and tough when need be.

First dates are nerve-racking for everyone no matter what they say. So instead of trying to be formal and elegant, kick up your boots and show your date that you have style and class without all of the stereotypes. Being casual will give you the chance to show the real you as well as the fabulous Fashionista. Now that sounds like a perfect date to me.
