WHAT TO WEAR: Brunch

June 1st, 2015 at 2:00am

More often than not, I will admit that the idea of brunch has me rushing to throw on my elastic shorts and favorite T-shirt in anticipation of how much I know my eyes will be bigger than my stomach. Because let’s be honest, everyone fantasizes about a fantastic breakfast and lunch combination to set the optimal mood for the rest of the Fashionsta/o’s day. But other circumstances, such as meeting the parents or a colleague, call for wearing a more chic and classier look to your favorite French brassiere or local southern kitchen (because who doesn’t love chicken and waffles), right?

Pairing the right outfit can be daunting because of the fine line between too dressy and underdressed for brunch attire, especially if it is a pre-planned event and not a spur of the moment gathering. With the right balance, an unintentional disorganized look can be transformed into a perfect brunch attire for any circumstance.

This Fashionista is sporting an acid-washed denim blouse paired with white jeans, flats and a reversible shoulder bag along with a layered beaded necklace. I love this shirt because the sleeveless arms are great if the weather is perfect for outdoor seating. You can button up (or down) as many buttons as you deem fit to be appropriate for whomever you are meeting up with. The high-low back is a current trend right now and looks awesome when matched with skinnies. Skinny jeans are a preferred fit for this top and white is a great color to contrast the acid-washed denim in the shirt. I absolutely love the canary yellow flats because they really pull together the whole outfit. A pop of color is a great idea when the majority of your outfit is based on neutral colors. The layered necklace is perfect for the subtle neckline of the blouse and is great for adding more details to the outfit. Lastly, the classic shoulder bag is a must-have because it adds a more sophisticated appeal as opposed to a cross-body bag which comes off as more casual.

One Simple Change: Give this outfit a bolder, edgy look and switch to black faux leather jeans and cognac leather wedges for the perfect weekend wear outfit when you’re going out on the town with friends.
