WHAT TO WEAR: Brunch

What to Wear

This time of year brings with it fresh blooms, colors and attitudes. Between Easter and Mother’s Day, it only makes sense to get comfortable with those mid-morning meals, and get accustomed to what trends will be appreciated by the whole family. While dressing to impress your extended family and still look your age can sometimes be difficult, especially when crop tops and barely-there denim cut-offs are the “in” looks, it can be done. Utilizing color and accessories will help keep Grandma proud, and your look current.

While brunch with the girls on Sex and the City typically pulled from a variety of styles, when it comes to holiday brunch it’s best to stick with the classics. Come Easter or Mother’s Day, I advise following Charlotte’s lead and leaving Samantha at home. This simple shift dress is the perfect fix. Modesty doesn’t have to lose it appearance of youth, and this Fashionista uses bright colors to keep this look young and fresh.

With springtime (finally) upon us, it is time to break out those brights and pastels that have been in hiding. After a long winter of neutrals and muted tones, come April, we’re all ready for something bright. This Fashionista takes on a spring palette with ease. Her bright J.Crew cardigan pulls together the whole ensemble.

When it comes to accessorizing for brunch, these are the pieces you can use to keep a more modest piece youthful. Nude patent pumps are a staple. I repeat, staple. As in if you don’t already own and depend on a pair, it would be best to integrate them into your wardrobe as soon as possible. That being said, these Steve Madden’s are the perfect heel for the occasion. The unique pairing of the yellow and pink are a departure from the usual pastels, but a much appreciated one. While pastels are met with excitement each spring, it’s best to not overload for risk of looking like an Easter egg. Sounds ridiculous, but every year the crime is committed. A simple cross-body is all this look needs, and keeps the outfit from appearing too business casual. This Tory Burch cross-body is a great addition.

One Simple Change: Meeting up with friends for lunch? Merely switch out the pumps for a pair of wedges, swap the cardigan for a trendy kimono and you’re set to go from family to friends.
