WHAT TO WEAR: Brunch

What to Wear

Brunch—people either love it or hate it. When someone tells me they hate brunch, I question their state of mind. They might as well say that they hate Thanksgiving, too. Brunch is about more than just the food though; it’s more of a social gathering with food involved. You get the opportunity to catch up with friends, have a Bloody Mary (or three) and relax before dealing with the rest of your day. I really don’t know what there is to hate about it. For busy college students, brunch is usually reserved for the weekends. Since there are no classes or club meetings to worry about, dress up a bit more and put your chic foot forward.

If you’re looking to brunch in style, take some notes from today’s Fashionisto. He is all set for an afternoon of French toast and cantaloupe in his sophisticated ensemble. Overall, he has put together a simple look, but used bold pieces, which made it stand out. He starts off with the basics: black skinny jeans and brown lace-up boots. He adds a neutral turtleneck sweater, a plaid scarf and my favorite piece of all—his long Burberry coat. The coat polishes off his look perfectly and is a better alternative to an everyday down jacket or short peacoat, especially if you’re looking to dress it up a bit.

To achieve your own classy, brunch-worthy look, keep it simple and crisp. Start with a pair of dark skinnies and lace-up boots. Fashionistas, if you enjoy walking in heels, opt for a pair of heeled booties instead. Since the cold weather is still a nuisance, you’ll need to stay warm on top. Go for a knit sweater in a light, neutral color. Guys, this option would look great with black skinny jeans and boots while this ivory sweater would be perfect for the Fashionistas. For the coat, go bold or go home. This is your chance to take your look from class appropriate to brunch ready attire. This Diane von Furstenberg coat would certainly stand out on the ladies, but this burgundy option would add a finishing touch to any Fashionisto’s look. Add a pop of pattern with your accessories and you’ll have the perfect look for your next brunch.

One Simple Change: Dress this look up even more for a fancy date night by swapping out the boots for wingtip oxfords and the jeans for black trousers.
