WHAT TO WEAR: Back on Campus

September 28th, 2016 at 2:00am

I’m not even a week into my classes and I’ve been made acutely aware of the pains of attempting to traverse such a large campus in uncomfortable shoes. Students here at the University of Wisconsin-Madison recognize that back to school means back to walking everywhere‚—and I mean everywhere.

While the constant cardio is a great way to combat the Freshman 15, it’s slightly discouraging for those of us who like to rock sandals into October (namely, just the Wisconsin natives). Thus, the task of choosing comfortable, stylish footwear presents itself to students attending large universities all over.

This California native opted for a pair of adidas sneakers to enhance the cool feeling of her look while allowing her to move quickly from class to class. Although such a seemingly understated shoe, these popular white kicks allow any Fashionista to exude an effortless vibe.

Additionally, she balances multiple trendy pieces by keeping her outfit simple and accessorizing appropriately. She showcases my favorite trend of the moment—the revival of the mini backpack. This trend brings back major ’90s nostalgia (i.e. Cher Horowitz in Clueless) and provides a fashionable alternative to the typical Jansport/North Face backpacks worn by most students. While this trendy bag may not be the most practical option for schlepping materials to class (hello, five pounds of textbooks alone), it’s perfect for holding all the essentials when going out with friends.

Another favorite trend of mine, the boyfriend denim jacket, is a must-have piece because of its versatility. This Fashionista channels a laid-back Californian vibe with her denim-on-denim look while keeping comfortable—the perfect combo for class. I love that the subtle black velvet detailing on the cuffs and collar of her jacket make it all the more unique.

I hope everyone has eased into their first semester and is ready to try out some new trends! Stay tuned for more fall/winter inspired looks as the temperature begins to drop.
