WHAT TO WEAR: Athleisure

February 1st, 2017 at 2:00am

For all you trend setters out there, this one is for you. Whether you are running out the door to get to class, going to Trader Joe’s (priorities) or you’re just plain tired of dressing up for a “blah” kind of day, athleisure is your new best friend. I am assuming most of you already know the new term “athleisure” but for those of you who don’t, it is essentially wearing gym clothes as an actual cute outfit. Think Kendall Jenner or Gigi Hadid looking seamlessly chic wearing black leggings and a crop leather jacket. This is one of my favorite outfits to wear to class because it is super comfy without wearing an over-sized college t-shirt and running shorts. This Fashionista works her athletic magic with this very stylish look.

I have one word that can take your athleisure outfit from average to trend alert and that is: mesh. I have seen a multitude of trendy athletic gear incorporate mesh into leggings, sports bras, tops, jackets—you name it. This Fashionista embodies this trend by coordinating her black high-waisted leggings and high-neck sports bra. For warmth and style, she topped this off with a leather jacket. I personally love how this looks. I think the leather jacket adds an edge that brings intention to this outfit. This captures the core idea of athleisure because “yes, we meant to wear gym clothes today, and yes, we look dang good while doing it.” And let’s be real here, we won’t be wearing this while breathlessly melting away on the elliptical. Accessorizing is definitely still a thing when it comes to mastering your athleisure outfit, this Fashionista does so with a sporty-chic baseball cap, black suede and faux snakeskin high tops, and a maroon backpack. Overall, she is rocking it.

Next time you wake up feeling like you just can’t conquer bootie heels and restricting jeans all day, think about ways you can stay comfy and chic with your athletic gear. I definitely will be taking advantage of this trend while it lasts.
