What I Gained From Studying Abroad in London

Greetings from across the pond! A year ago, I was a junior in college trying to figure out how I could make the most of my last year of university. I decided that studying abroad was something I couldn’t pass up. One year later, I am finishing my last term of college in London, England. Below are some of the things I’ve gained from this experience.

1—I pursued a unique opportunity. By studying abroad, I had the opportunity to take unique classes that offered opportunities that aren’t available at my home university. There will never be another time in my life that I can go live in a new country to learn, study, and explore.

2—You can get cultured. I have always been fascinated by different cultures from around the world. By studying abroad, I was immersed in a brand new culture. The insights I gained just simply can’t be learned from a book.

3—You become more than just a tourist. London is such a big city, and there’s no way I could have had the full experience of coming here for a short vacation. Living here for an extended period of time allowed me to explore much more than just the main tourist attractions.

4—I experienced personal growth. As clichéd as it may sound, I have become a much more independent person. Being thrown into a new country with different customs and traditions made me step outside of my comfort zone.

If you ever have the chance to study abroad, I highly recommend saying yes to the experience. The memories will last you a lifetime.
