WHAT I KNOW NOW—Danielle Smith, Assistant Planner Free People

July 6th, 2015 at 2:00am

If there was one word to describe Danielle Smith it would be “genuine.” If you had to select a second word to describe her, it would be “smart.” There are countless other lovely adjectives to describe this former Saint Joseph’s University Style Guru, who has been rocking life post-grad at Free People. (If “seriously-nicest-person-ever” was an adjective, we would add that to the list as well.)

Danielle was nice enough to dispense some of her “genuinely smart” advice for our CollegeFashionista readers on what it takes to succeed (and how to do so with kindness and integrity) in the “real world.”

1.  Add Value: Regardless of experience level, each person has a unique perspective. If you are new, your value may be that you have a fresh vantage point. Speak up and contribute.

2.  Be Real, Not Cool: Being able to say you work for the “cool” company means nothing if you are not offered sufficient benefits and the structure to advance. When selecting a job, it is important to make the “real” factors the deciding factors. They will ultimately be the greatest contributor to your satisfaction in the work place.

3.  Never say No: Take advantage of all of the opportunities presented to you.  Exposure to something new is always invaluable.   What you learn will either push you towards something you like or away from something you do not.

4.  Complacency Kills: When you become content, you are extinguishing your limitless potential. Always strive to be to elevate yourself and those around you.

5.  Happiness over “Errythang”: Nothing is worth it if you are not happy.
