When I was younger, I absolutely hated wide-brimmed hats. This dislike likely stemmed from the fact that my mother used to make me wear the most heinously large, fake-flowered, beribboned straw hats whenever I set foot outside in a floral dress. However, as the years have passed I have been able to get over my traumatic headwear experiences and embrace all sorts of hats, even those with wider brims!
This spring, wide-brimmed felt hats have been dotting the streets of New York City in all shapes and colors. They are perfect for both the chillier days and those that are swelteringly hot. This Fashionista's black hat not only shaded her from the sporadic bursts of sunrays that were beaming down on Manhattan today, but also added an edgy indie accessory to her simple yet stylish ensemble. Hats like these look good with virtually any sort of outfit and are so versatile that they should become a staple in every fashion-foreword girls closet.
The rest of this Fashionista's outfit was also well put together, from its color combination to its simple accessories. Wearing a white dress is usually no small feat, as they can often look too plain alone, yet by adding tights and a light brown bomber jacket this New Yorker was able to breakup the solid hue of her dress. I love how she chose to wear sheer tights because they allow her skin tone to show through, making the transition from the white dress to tights less blunt than solid black ones would.
This Fashionista's gold and coral accessories were also unpretentiously beautiful and added simple touches of shimmer and shine to the outfit. Because neither her dress nor her jacket had any sort of pattern or detailing, the accessories serve as the interest point of her outfit and play off of the tiny gold studs that were on her leather ankle boots.
Hint: Don't be afraid to go bold with your headwear this summer (though maybe not royal wedding bold)! Headscarves, hats and wraps are all great ways to add character to any outfit whilst chicly combating the sun. There are various styles to choose from, be they bohemian inspired looks or those that look like they are straight from an adventure film, so fill your closets to the brim!
