WHAT TO WEAR: Girly and Cool is the New Do

As spring turns to summer, Fashionistas all over Florida State have begun ditching their sweatshirts and boots, and digging out their spring apparel. What I find completely compelling about their new style choices is the theme of girly chic meets street cool—where skirts meet vintage tees and dresses are worn with sneakers. For any Fashionista like myself who is not a fan of flowy apparel, but clings to her high tops, this is the fashion trend for you.

This Fashionista is a girl after my own heart, styling glitter with rugged sneakers and creating a monochromatic palette that had me bowing down. To start off the outfit, her sequined dress, a piece that was both in the spotlight but subtle, was the perfect amount of flirt and feminine. Its embellishments gave it a scale like appeal, sending off major mermaid vibes, perfect for day-time wear. To complement the dress, a lightly-washed acid jean jacket gives a major cool-girl vibe to the chic ensemble. If you want to step the fashion game up a notch, take after this Fashionista, and lean towards a boxier, longer fit, instead of the usual clean-cut denim jacket. The finishing touch to transforming this outfit from a feminine getup to a relaxed assemblage, is to pair it off with some worn-in sneakers, in this case a fan-favorite, Vans. Fashionista, Alyssa, adds some personal flair with some tall socks, scrunched down to her liking.

An outfit is never complete without its accessories, and these definitely take the cake! To complete the nude monochromatic theme, a nude colored cap ties the entire look together. And just because the mermaid, ethereal look was so spot on, this Fashionista decided that bringing in some gem embellished hoops would complete the outfit. Now I am always very skeptical when it comes to hoop earrings, but these are a statement, yet can be understated if paired with an ensemble such as this one. Alyssa definitely inspired me to take more fashion risks, and that a little sparkly dress never killed nobody.
