STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Winter is Coming

Style Advice of the Week

With the arrival of leaf-less trees, shorter days and the first snowfall, it’s becoming more and more inevitable that winter is coming. There’s nothing more depressing than saying goodbye to the days of fashionable layers, accepting the months of snow and bundling up like marshmallows. While everything outside appears to be losing its color, this Fashionista drew my attention.

This week’s Fashionista is wearing a knit sweater, tights, and boots paired with a purse and belt. What caught my eye was her purse. In a vibrant sapphire blue hue, this was a jewel tone I had yet to see this fall. Worn with a muted emerald green sweater, this purse remains in the family of jewels yet somehow has a sort of brightness to it without drawing all the focus from the rest of the outfit. Marc Jacobs offers a variety of bags in a similar colour of bluette, but more attainable purses in this hue can be found at Zara and Urban Outfitters.

While it may be harder to dress more feminine in all the layers, an easy solution is wearing a pair of tights. For some reason tights can instantly dress up a look without being too blatant. To keep it casual, pick a more opaque pair of tights and dress the look down with flat knee-high boots. Another way to dress yourself up subtly is by curling your hair. If you’re like me and struggle with a curling iron or can’t quite get the hang of using a straightener to do the job, curling wands might just be your best friend. Curls appear more natural looking and take at least half the time to do! While there are more expensive options, there are places that offer a few more affordable choices. To finish the look simply pair a coloured sweater about the length of a short dress and belt it. Though winter is soon approaching, there are still a few weeks left before heavy winter jackets become a go-to item so enjoy the remaining days of fall as much as you can!
