With students stuck in libraries writing essays and cramming for midterms, it was almost like everyone on campus had disappeared. Luckily, I found this Fashionisto wearing trousers instead of sweatpants and chukkas instead of flip flops. While it is tempting to just throw on anything when you’re busy or in a rush, sometimes the simplest basics can keep you looking sharp and take just as much time to put on.
What I love about this Fashionisto is his gray pants. With all the dark clothing options for fall and trending colored bottoms, it’s as if everyone in the world (myself included) forgot about the color gray. Gray is a great neutral that pairs well with any color and comes in a million shade variations, depending on your preference. This lighter shade however drew my attention as it remains neutral in color but offers a softer and brighter look compared to the deep and rich colors typically worn around this time of year.
Lately I’ve been seeing a lot of Fashionistos returning to simple tops, relying on outerwear, pant color and a nicer shoe to bring the look together for a casual daytime outfit. To get this look, pair a long sleeve shirt or sweater with a pair of gray pants. It's as easy as that. Not only can you decide what shade of pant to wear, but also what style. Trousers are a standard choice but chinos have a softer, more casual look. Another option is going for a pair of pants with texture or slight detail, enough to keep it different but not draw attention as the statement piece of the outfit. Finish the look with a pair of chukkas and the outfit is complete. While dressing fashionably may seem like more effort during busy times, it certainly makes a difference. Keep in mind that fashionable does not necessarily mean following crazy trends. Sometimes looking presentable and effortless in basics is all it takes.
