I’ll admit the child in me still loves to play dress-up. I am guilty of holding up my friends from heading to a party, being late for dinners and rushing to class because I have taken so long to figure out what outfit to wear. Now, while I love to take my time with my clothes, my make-up regimen has pretty much always been the same: pressed powder, gold eyeshadow, and black eyeliner and mascara to top it all off. But every now and then I’ll venture out of my comfort zone- try on a green eyeshadow, go with foundation instead of powder, maybe a dark lip; I know, my life is wild.
Thus, you can imagine my inner-child’s glee when I spotted this Fashionista rocking a very on-trend look. The dark, oxblood red that she’s sporting seems to be taking the fashion world by storm this season; whether on a Tory Burch clutch or in J Brand jeans, this deep, brooding, almost-purple color is the new neutral. This Fashionista was spotted pairing her dark lips with a classic outfit- a pleated, gauzy skirt and simple white blouse, both from Club Monaco, along with a pair of maroon Loeffler Randall heels that perfectly complemented her lipstick.
As with most things in life, when rocking this beauty trend, less is more. I suggest wearing an outfit full of neutral colors, like this Fashionista did, which will allow your daring lips to take center stage. Stick to the bare essentials for the rest of your make-up, like these models did at the Gucci show this Fall. These lovely models were styled with a feminine hair-do, that I found extremely wonderful when juxtaposed with the vampiric allure of their lip color. I’ve found that when you pairs dark lips with a feminine ensemble, attention is drawn towards your best accessory- your face. I hope you’ll follow the heart of your inner child and try this trend. It’s perfect for a day of classes or for a night out on the town; and no matter what you wear it with, you’ll be sure to turn some heads.
