Recently, I’ve been on a fur kick. I’ve been scouring websites trying to find the perfect fur gilet or fur coat or fur scarf. (Before PETA comes knocking on my door, let me clarify that it’s always been faux-fur, as any environmentally conscious Fashionista knows it should be.) I feel that no winter jacket is as fun or cute as it could be sans fur.
This week has been especially frigid in Philadelphia. We are experiencing some serious post-Sandy weather depression here, even though, thankfully, Sandy didn’t do too much damage to our campus. The cold weather has recently been accompanied by an even colder biting wind. It’s not fun.
I saw this Fashionista on one of the coldest days of the week. She was flying down Locust Walk in tights, a dress, a coat and combat boots when I thought, “Wow, isn’t she freezing? She must be part penguin, or something.” I later asked her how she was doing it, and she laughed and pointed at her sweater-knit tights. To each their own, I guess. One of the best parts of this Fashionista’s outfit was her jacket. The horn clasps almost create a baby-doll shape to the jacket, and the pea coat look of the material exudes a professional vibe. Don’t even get me started on her pom-poms. Oh, those pom-poms. I have to say, that no matter what winter jacket you get, it will always be better with the addition of pom-poms- no argument.
This Fashionista’s look was complimented by a glowing face sans makeup. This natural look is often saved for the summer, which is truly a real shame for girls with clear, beautiful skin like this Fashionista’s. A lot can be said of the utility of a good moisturizer. If you haven’t already purchased a facial moisturizer, I urge you to go to the store as soon as possible and get one, especially when the cold wind tends to dry out skin. Some cult-classics include Kiehl’s Facial Moisturizer, which is soft and great for all skin types. For those of you budget-conscious Fashionistas, I suggest Aveeno’s Positively Radiant Moisturizer with SPF 30, because yes, even in the winter you should be wearing SPF. This moisturizer has natural light diffusers that bring out the beauty in your skin. It’s one of my personal favorites. Now, for those of you who are looking for some coverage in your moisturizer, fear not- there are so many wonderful moisturizers that are tinted to allow you light coverage and maximum moisture. Try this one from Bobbi Brown, which comes in 9 different shades so you can find the one that best fits your skin tone. They even created a different kind of formula for women with more oily skin, so if that’s you, fear not!
I urge you all to go out and buy a great moisturizer for the upcoming months. The cold tends to completely dry out your skin. Healthy looking skin is a perfect compliment to any outfit, especially a faux-fur coat, so go buy one of those bad boys (and send me links to cute ones you find!).
