FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Emily Bonsignore

Fashionista Spotlight

Winter seems to only be getting colder here in Davis, but this Fashionista managed to find a balance between warmth and fashion. She played up a knitted sweater with one of my favorite trends this season: collared shirts!

Name: Emily Bonsignore

Major: Sociology

Year: Sophomore

College Fashionista: What are you wearing today?

Emily Bonsignore: My collared shirt is from a thrift store; the knitted sweater is from Forever 21; the jeans are from Macy’s and the shoes were from Boutique 9!

CF: Who is your celebrity style doppleganger?

EB: Zooey Deschanel, I love her style it’s very feminine but quirky at the same time.

CF: What are your favorite stores to shop at?

EB: I love ModCloth, ASOS and Anthropologie.

CF: What would you never wear?

EB: I would never ever be caught wearing gaucho pants!

How To: I stopped this Fashionista because of her cute crossbody bag from Anthropologie! A fun bag can add some personality to your outfit, especially when you’re in monochrome or wearing all neutral colors. Try this cheetah print BDG bag from Urban Outfitters, it’s fun and perfect for school! Layers are important with the cold weather, and a knitted sweater over a collared shirt is perfect for school. I love playing with embellished collared shirts under plain sweaters. I love oxfords, especially her Boutique 9 oxfords; if you’re feeling adventerous try these studded oxfords by Steve Madden, or go metallic! I also think oxfords with metal heels are chic and edgy if you wanted to go for a more slick look.

All of these pieces are essentials that are already probably in your closet! Dress up your collared shirts with simple DIY projects – like adding studs, embroidery or beads. Layer a cozy sweater on top to keep warm when your outside, and have a stylish collared button-up on under for class. To give this look a flare you can try patterned leggings or jeans to add more color and excitement into your look. Go baroque; this trendy pattern was seen on the runway for Dolce&Gobanna’s fall 2012 ready to wear collection.
