Last Sunday afternoon, I came across Barnard student Allie just a few hours before Hurricane Sandy was predicted to hit Manhattan. Even with news threatening bad weather, this Washington state native managed to construct an outfit showcasing the rich colors of fall.
If you are looking to recreate Allie’s look, the first element you should start with are the maroon cords. This color has been a huge hit this season, seen in nearly every clothing item from thick sweaters to dresses, but trendy, yet classic cords like these can be found at Madewell. Allie wears these pants as more casual, weekend-wear, but they could easily be dressed up with a sharp blazer and slick heels or printed platforms.
As for the upper portion of her outfit, this Fashionista has chosen a dark blue sweater, and paired it with a lighter blue collared shirt. The intersection of the maritime knit sweater and the worn denim shirt makes for an interesting texture play, and the layering adds definite warmth. The outermost cream shell is simple and classic, the light color highlighting the maroon and navy jewel tones.
Allie’s accessories would also be useful additions to any college student’s closet for the late fall. Both the gray fingerless gloves and the brown loafers bring in a sense of that mysterious West Coast cool that those on the East Coast always seem to be so entranced by. If you are looking to buy either the gloves or the shoes, be sure to pick neutral colors as exhibited here so you can mix and match during future falls to draw attention to the trending colors of that season.
