Throughout the past two seasons, bright jeans have taken center stage. Floral, tie-dye and pastels have swept into department and chain stores alike allowing everyone to pick their own color or pattern of the season and college Fashionista/os have been no exception. On any particular day at George Mason one can spot a daring Fashionista/o who has spun this trend into his or her own.
I spotted this week’s Fashionista on the way to Starbucks on a brisk afternoon. Her bright yellow skinnies and red lips immediately drew me in. I was feeling her rocker vibe as she breezed past me with every ounce of cool I would imagine Gwen Stefani to possess. What I envied most about her outfit was her ability to take basics and keep them fresh. Her white lace-less sneakers and cotton T-shirt kept the rest of her outfit minimal, but she added her own twist by picking a shirt that had the message “Love To Flirt,” splashed across the exterior and bold red lips to complete the look; confidence was key to this ensemble.
When a trend becomes mainstream, it often loses its appeal after a few months but color denim has continued to be prominent for the summer 2012/fall 2012 runways. What this Fashionista did right she took a popular and established trend and made it her own, which gave the colored denim a new feel, vibe and style affect. For a day look, it is best to opt for pieces that express your style without trying to cover every trend out there. This Fashionista opted for canary yellow skinnies, apart from the overly popular cobalt blue, coral and mint green, and expressed her personality with her cropped shirt and a bold lip; she was able to incorporate her own style and personality and still looked current.
To get a look like this Fashionista, opt for bright denim that you feel most comfortable in, but push the color barrier and choose a color you don't see often either. Try these neon yellow skinny jeans, slim lilac purple ankle jeans or these bold orange skinny jeans for a fresh splash of color. Pair whichever color sparks your interest with a cropped tee that speaks to your personality and style such as this charcoal destroyed cropped top for a more serious vibe or this black and white tank to show off your playful side.
