FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Saira Treviño

Fashionista Spotlight

Some people say they are not interested in fashion. They may think it is silly or they don’t take it seriously. Maybe the truth behind it is that sometimes fashion can be intimidating, from the way people dress to the industry itself. No matter what people say, they probably have something in their closet that was designed by someone carefully. I have to quote one of this Fashionista's favorite movie characters, Miranda Priestly on The Devil Wears Prada, commenting Andy’s sweater color: “…that blue represents millions of dollars and countless jobs and it’s sort of comical how you think that you’ve made a choice that exempts you from the fashion industry when, in fact, you’re wearing the sweater that was selected for you by the people in this room from a pile of stuff.” CollegeFashionistas certainly know this.

Some students go to class wearing gym clothes or even pajamas, but not Fashionistas unless they are wearing a very chic PJ like these from Emilio Pucci. Besides the fact that I admire girls in heels at school, my Fashionista has what I was talking about — the reason why fashion can be intimidating. She is wearing an outfit that decodes confidence and a strong point of view.

Name: Saira Treviño

CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing today?

Saira Treviño: I am wearing Guess jeans, vintage shirt, shoes by Steve Madden and I bought my bag at Macy’s.

CF: How would you describe your look today?

ST: I will say girly grunge.

CF: Where do you look for inspiration on your clothes?

ST: I am very influenced by alternative, rock or indie music. For example, Zoe. I also read Teen Vogue and I love Lookbook.nu because I like how everyone has a different style.

CF: Do you have a favorite quote?

ST: “You can never be overdressed or overeducated.” by Oscar Wilde.

How To: To recreate the girly grunge look, wear a blouse with vintage prints like this one from ASOS and pair it with black skinny jeans and black wedges from Steve Madden. For accessories, incorporate some pearl bracelets to add up the girly look and a black oversized tote. Finally, don’t forget the most important accessory: confidence!
