STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: ’90s Revival

Style Advice of the Week

N’Sync, Backstreet Boys, Brittney Spears, Beanie Babies, Boy Meets World, Fanny Packs, Light-up shoes, stick on earrings—this list could go on forever, and I hope you all know what I’m talking about. The '90s were great and memorable years for music, television, accessories and most importantly, fashion! Chances are if you are in college and reading this then you can recollect because it was our childhood, but just because we’ve grown up doesn’t mean we can’t bring back the style.

This fearless Fashionista was not afraid to go back to the style of yester-year. She reminded me of how Brittany Murphy dressed in Clueless before she got a makeover. This Fashionista tucked a graphic T-shirt into high-waist denim shorts. She also layered black tights under her shorts, which was iconic of the '90s. Another fashion staple of the '90s was Dr. Martens shoes. These shoes, that somewhat resemble the trendy combat boot of today, go great with tights or jeans, but if you are going for a '90s grunge look like this Fashionista then I recommend wearing them with tights.

Another style element that adds to the '90s look is the hat this Fashionista wears. All throughout the '90s, women and men wore these hats with vintage sunglasses, but this Fashionista kept it simple with a pair of regular frames. Depending on how warm or cool fall gets on your campus, I would recommend wearing an oversized flannel or button-up shirt over an outfit like this Fashionista's. Finally, to personalize your grunge look, add a statement necklace to your outfit or a bandana as this Fashionista has done.

The grunge style of the '90s can be easily replicated because you probably have half of the items in your closet and the other half could be found in your mom or dad’s closet. Otherwise, thrift stores are a great place to shop for one of a kind items that were worn during these years, plus you can get them for a great price. Bringing back old school style is always fun, especially when it is a style most of us grew up in.
