The 1990s are back and it’s hitting the fashion scene harder than ever. If you haven’t noticed the mass amounts of denim, leather and extremely high waists then it’s probably safe to say that you haven’t left the house in a very, very long time. I think the Jock Jams actually started playing the moment I spotted this Fashionista and I’m not mad at it.
Name: Anabella Morin
Major: Retail Merchandising and Product Development
Year: Junior
CollegeFashionista: Since you are a Retail Merchandising major, what career do you wish to pursue in fashion?
Anabella Morin: I would kind of want to be more on the editorial side, like a creative director. I want to be able to create a story.
CF: How would you describe your personal style?
AM: That’s a hard one. I kind of always go for more of an edgier look, even when I dress preppy. I like leather, black and jeans. My favorite thing to wear is my leather jacket; I’m surprised I’m not wearing it right now. I always try to look different.
CF: What do people say about your style? How does that make you feel?
AM: They say it’s different and I like that because it’s nice to be singled out as different, but good.
CF: Favorite stores in Tallahassee?
AM: Goodwill.
CF: What do you like most about Tallahassee style? What do you not like?
AM: The thing I don’t like is that everyone kind of goes towards the same trends, you see a lot of people wearing workout clothes when they’re not working out. The thing I do like is that people are so relaxed so you don’t have to dress to the nines all of the time, but people shouldn’t dress like they’re going to bed.
How To: Nothing says 1990s like overalls; it doesn’t come as a surprise that Free People carries an abundant selection of these for your viewing or purchasing pleasure. Unif also has a great assortment for both men and women looking to be inspired by the 1990s influences. If you’re not too sure on how to pull these looks together head over to one of my personal favorite blogger's site GRIZTRIZ, for some added inspo. Check out this YouTube video of the spring/summer 1993 collections of Perry Ellis, Anna Sui and Oscar de la Renta and see if you can spot any familiar trends.
