SYLE GURU BIO: Kalynn Smith

Hello my wonderful Fashionistas/os! My name is Kalynn Smith and I am excited to be writing my first post for CollegeFashionista. I am a sophomore at The Ohio State University and quite the happy little Buckeye. My major is Business Marketing with a minor in Design and a major dream of working in the fashion industry. I grew up in a small town and always thought if I wanted to be successful I had to become a doctor or lawyer of some sort, but coming to Columbus really changed my point of view. I realized my passion for fashion and that being successful isn’t based off of the status of your job, but the joy your career brings you. I highly recommend keeping an open mind no matter what age you are, because you never know what you will learn about yourself at any given day.

I like to call myself a “Professional Shopper” and “Pinterest Expert” because that is what I like to do in my free time. I have really been working on creating my own personal style that has timeless and minimal aesthetic. My number one thought when picking out an outfit is always comfort and style. I like to go for trendy looks that are more toned down and comfortable for an everyday look. A simple description of my style would be laid back and modern with a minimal edge. I tend to go for neutral colors with interesting textures that make a statement instead of bright colors or patterns. Although I am from Ohio I believe I am truly a California girl at heart, as my style and interests fit the lifestyle out there to a tee. To all you West Coasters, I envy you!

My current outfit is something I have been excited to wear for the fall. Fall is actually my favorite season for fashion because I love layers, boots and fall jackets. This season I think it is important to have a fall statement jacket as it spices up any outfit, from going to class or out to dinner with your friends. It’s the easiest way to look put together while staying warm and comfortable. I am also a huge advocate for the “you can never have too many pairs of boots” club (that’s a thing, right?) as these black Chelsea boots are my current favorites. My floral dress has the perfect color tones for fall and I plan to get a lot of use out of it this season.

I can’t wait to share the style around my campus as well as my own personal style advice with you all! I’ll also be updating my own blog, Of Glitter and Gold, throughout the semester to accompany my CollegeFashionista posts.

I hope you have a #RAD fall semester and don’t forget to always dream big and never give up on your goals. Your passions are what make you shine, so reach for the stars!
