I’m Sarah Wasilak and this is my sixth semester writing for CollegeFashionista. With each season that goes by, the CF site continues to expand, and I have been able to participate in more and more campaigns and brand collaborations than ever! Yet, being a Style Guru means so much more. As the entire team at NYU can attest, we feel as if we have the responsibility as the trendsetters on campus. Every time I walk down the street, I keep my eyes peeled for the sartorially unique – the Fashionista/os who CF readers will draw the utmost inspiration from. I have the power to choose which students I want to take photos of, and in that way, I’m defining fashion.
My own taste is pretty eclectic – sometimes I feel totally preppy (think Blair Waldorf or Spencer Hastings), and the next I’m an androgynous sort of grunge (Boy by Band of Outsiders is one of my favorite labels). But no matter what flavor I’m feeling, I always find looks I love at thrift stores. My favorite vintage shops are Beacon’s Closet, Cure and Screaming Mimi’s. And truth be told, I rarely walk out empty-handed.
Like most other college girls, I’m always scouring the racks at Urban Outfitters, H&M, LF, Zara or Topshop, and I also love to browse ASOS online. While shopping and styling is really fun, I like writing about the art of fashion even more. I’d love to be an editor at a magazine one day (I’m a digital intern at NYLON and I’ve also worked at Cosmopolitan), and being a CF Style Guru is great practice. I don’t consider it a job – updating my weekly column has become habitual. It’s something I can’t wait to do. It’s an obsession.
