My third semester as a Style Guru begins in a year I suspect will be full of change and growth. I’ll start in New York City once again, working with the lovely Diane von Furstenberg footwear team. Then in February I’ll be packing up to settle in at University of Delaware for (eek!) my last two semesters in college.
A few weeks ago, around a dinner table with family, I revisited the classic Dr. Suess tale “Oh, the Places You’ll Go,” and since I’ve been anticipating the vast unknown of my near future.
While tomorrow I’ll be reading The Hunger Games series on the train to New York, this time next year I hope to be reviewing travel books on a plane to Europe, South America or Asia.
Studying fashion is becoming ever the more global. Technology seems to have shrunk the world in terms of business and communication, but to truly understand the scope of the fashion industry, I have to reach cultures outside my own. Of course, it wouldn’t hurt to have a few adventures along the way.
As for the upcoming semester I am, as always, endlessly excited to see fashion’s influences displayed on the city streets and campus sidewalks. I expect these next few months will show a variety, as Manhattan’s chic or shocking style will blend into the subtle vibe of Delaware’s student population.
I wish you all the best of luck, health, and good fun in the new year, and hope to see you on the streets!
