Hello Fashionistas. I’m excited to be writing to you from Happy Valley where I will be rejoining the College Fashionista team this fall as one of your go-to Style Gurus. Not only is the school year kickin’ it back into gear but so are your wardrobes and I intend to show the best of what you have to offer. In the words of Yves Saint Laurent, “Fashions fade, style is eternal,” and you, Fashionista/os, style on. But before I get ahead of myself, perhaps I should give an introduction first.
My name Is Kristin Richards and I am a rising senior at the Pennsylvania State University majoring in both marketing and public relations. As it happens, I cannot believe how quickly my time here has passed; it’s been a ride to say the least but I’ve enjoyed the ups and downs that have made these years so exciting. I hope to join a firm after school but ideally I would like to have the chance to work in the fashion industry. I love the fluid pace of fashion, how it seems to move through time effortlessly with vintage ties in modern times. It is truly a form of speech that speaks for itself. Contemporary style is bolder than ever and now is the time to watch fashion as it evolves. One of my favorite quotes by the late Alexander McQueen explains that fashion is no longer the essence of designers and couture. “It’s a new era in fashion – there are no rules. It’s all about the individual and personal style, wearing high-end, low-end, classic labels, and up-and-coming designers all together.”
Apart from my growing collection of shoes, I love thrift shopping and scavenging lost treasures for DIY projects. I also enjoy photography and writing as well which come together quite seamlessly for this opportunity. As a Style Guru, I will have my camera on me throughout the day, always on the lookout for those fashionistos. Why do I say Fashionisto you may ask? Well this year I will be your Tuesday, LET'S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS, columnist. I will be handing the spotlight over to the boys for a day to feature some of the cool dudes strutting our campus. Let’s be honest, they deserve a little attention. There’s nothing like a well-tailored pair of chinos with a crisp shirt—can’t go wrong—oh and throw on a pair of high tops for good measure.
