My name is Kelsey Nieves and I am a returning Style Guru for this Fall from Montclair State University! To say I am excited for this semester's batch of Fashionistas is an understatement – autumn happens to be my favorite season. Who wouldn't love a season where wearing a sweater and shorts at the same time was acceptable? Besides loving the season, I have grown to love this site. Writing for CollegeFashionista has really taught me a lot as far as fashion trends are concerned. Simply reading how Teen Vogue styles neon is nothing compared to roaming the streets of NYC seeing how creative Fashionista's put these trends to work!
Although this is my second time around writing for CF this isn't my first time spotting urban Fashionistas pounding the pavements; fashion has been at the forefront of my thoughts ever since I can remember. From drawing stylish stick figures in the third grade to hiding the latest edition of Vogue inside my Pre-Calculus textbook in High School, it has always been my dream to pave my way in the fashion industry; so it comes as no surprise to my parents that I am now a sophomore at Montclair State University as a Fashion Studies major.
Growing up in my hometown of Jersey City, right across the river from Manhattan, has given me a diverse view on fashion. Just like my city, my style is a melting pot of the ethnicities, social classes and age groups that surround me. Exploring different types of dress and breaking style barriers has become my forte and I like to characterize myself as a style chameleon. My outfits are entirely situational, dependent on my mood, my environment and what’s trending. In the spirit of diversity and non-conformity, I cannot wait to bring to your attention the amazing and unique individuals that attend Montclair State University. I hope you take a study break every monday to check out my STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK posts, and enjoy reading as much as I do writing them for you ladies and gents this semester!
