Hey all you Fashionistas! I hope you all had an amazing summer filled with endless music festivals, lazy beach days, and mouthwatering barbeques. My name is Duong Nguyen and I cannot be more excited to continue as your Style Guru at the University of Pennsylvania for the fall 2012 semester. I had the most amazing time working with College Fashionista this summer and cannot wait to see all the new and returning trendsetters on campus this school year.
I recently went back to school shopping, even though it was absolutely unnecessary; those who know me realize that I constantly suffer from a lack of closet space as is. Nevertheless, I felt like it was necessary to add certain fall staples to my already massive wardrobe. Working in a Wharton office this summer allowed me to embrace the professional look as I completely fell in love with crisp blazers, chiffon blouses and sky-high heels (even on a daily basis). Stores like J.Crew, Zara and Ann Taylor became some of my favorite places to spend all of my paychecks.
Besides drawing inspiration from the workplace, my sense of style depends largely on my current mood and the atmosphere around me. I feel as though the older I get, the more important the combination of comfort and style is to me. There’s nothing better than feeling free and confident in what you wear and that’s why my new obsession includes flowing tank tops, loosely fitted lace long sleeves, and lightly knitted cardigans from Free People and Urban Outfitters. I love this carefree manner because it is directly opposite the clean-cut, everyday office attire, creating a nice change of pace.
I would definitely say that my style is very extensive and ranges from spiffy, to laid-back, to edgy and all in between. What I wear on any given day almost always hints at my mood. Whenever I’m feeling flirty, I tend to wear dresses; whenever I’m feeling adventurous, I like to wear denim cutoffs, etc. Obviously not everyone is that predictable but it’s still a fun thought.
