Style Advice of the Week

Ah (cue a sigh of relief), for as much as I love summer, it’s nice to finally say Heidi Klum’s Project Runway’s tagline, “auf wiedersehen”. A fundamental lesson, whether school related or not, is that all good things must come to an end. Goodbye lazy afternoons getting a tan. It’s time to make room for stressful hours devoted to completing assignments and studying for tests. All while worrying about finding a future internship or, dare I say, starting a job!

Even though we must finally part with the summer season, fall brings better things — and by things I mean fashions. Lesson number two: change is a good thing. Always. Go ahead and burry those Rainbow flip flops and Jack Rogers in the back of your closet to make room for fall favorites. Riding boots, loafers and cable knit sweaters are key basics. But most importantly, make room for fall’s fabric of choice: denim.

Although, according to my lesson number two, some things will simply stay the same. Denim will never go out of style and just about everyone, whether fashion savvy or not, knows it. So when I spotted this Fashionista on campus, I immediately knew her outfit had potential. At first glance, her outfit is put together in an effortless, campus chic manner, but after a closer look, she’s wearing all of fall’s favorite pieces. In this case, denim goes way beyond your favorite pair of jeans. Choose a denim jacket in your favorite hue of blue and add a little change to your fall wardrobe collection.

Last but not least, my third lesson: watch yourself. This lesson is a little more figurative. Adding a watch can truly make an outfit, especially one in a trendy shade of rose gold like this Fashionista’s. Besides, college students need to manage staying on time somehow while still being stylish. Fashionable yet functional watches have been taking the fashion scene by storm. So there you have it, enough of my trivial lessons. To sum it all up, summer we love you, but we’re moving on.
