When the word grandfather is placed in front of sweater I automatically fall in love. Add the words ugly Christmas sweater and I’m sold, and I stay faithful to the classic Bill Cosby sweater. Patterned sweaters are one of my favorite trends of the season and today’s Fashionisto demonstrates how guys can join in on the sweater fun.
Steering clear of vibrant colors and designs which are common in seasonal sweaters, today’s Fashionisto creates a timeless look by sticking to a monotone color scheme. The black and gray horizontal striped sweater looks composed, while the wool texture is comfortable and warm. For a more rustic feel, try a structured sweater similar to this one from French Connection and pair it with oxfords.
Pairing his sweater with black skinny jeans and black shoes allows this Fashionisto to stay debonair, without being too dressy. Since the sweater is warm, he doesn’t have to worry about covering up with a coat. This allows the structure of the outfit to remain balanced.
If it’s already too cold where you live for just a sweater, try adding a slouch beanie similar to this one from American Apparel and a pair of boots before you throw on a coat. I’m not saying you should risk getting a cold for the sake of Fashion, but I think you’ll be surprised at how warm these items can keep you on their own.
I love the androgynous quality of the sweater trend. Girls can wear an oversized sweater with leggings and knee high boots for a comfortable and cute outfit. The best place to find these sweaters, in my opinion, is at your local thrift store. If this doesn’t work, you can always raid your grandfather’s closet!
