Last Monday marked the first week of reading period, which is designed as a week without class to give students the opportunity to prep for finals. Despite the dance shows, comedy group performances and other distractions that spring up, most students will spend the better part of the week trudging from library to library. Like I’ve pointed out before, as at most other universities, the sweatpants and hoodies come out and it’s game over for fashion. And sure, it’s comfortable, but does it make you feel confident and ready to tackle work? Maybe it does. For the majority though, I’d say that being able to mesh cozy and comfortable with pieces that make you feel like you, like today’s Fashionisto does, can enhance both your style and your morale during this crazy time.
Today’s Fashionisto wears a pair of brown suede Chukka boots with socks that show just a hint of sunny yellow, instantly brightening up the outfit in a very small, easy-to-do way. He mixes his classic/preppy pair of shoes with a pair of modern, edgy drop-crotch cotton pants. Ladies, if you’re looking for an alternative to traditional sweatpants, this look could also work for you paired with a bright, form-fitting top. Today’s Fashionisto couples his pants with a soft, casual grey shirt and a light green stone pendant on a brown leather chain. Again, a large, simple necklace like this that you easily put on can give your look added personality and not take away from how comfortable it is.
To complete his look, today’s Fashionisto adds a navy blue knee-length jacket with a touch of grey fur, a cute pair of brown Gap sunglasses (that I happen to own as well) and a denim-colored small duffle bag with brown detailing. A trendy duffle about this size offers the perfect means through which to look stylish and transport large amounts of books. Again, all of these pieces are soft and/or simple, but still fashionable and demonstrative of today’s Fashionistos personality.
